Genetic modified ingredients should be required to be labeled by law. Genetic modified ingredients or GMOs and the lack of knowledge of people has become a topic of great interest worldwide. GMOs are chemicals which have been introduced to improve food production. According to the article “Recommendations from a Meeting on Health Implications of Genetically Modified Organism (GMO)”, a Genetically Modified Organism is any organism, with the exception of human beings, in which the genetic material has been altered in a way that does not occur naturally by mating and/or natural recombination.” Genetic Modified Organism or GMOs may be very dangerous for humans because they are associated with health problems. However, these chemicals remain hidden for the consumer and people are demanding for their right to know what they are consuming. Despite that some states are showing interest in the issue that Genetic Modified Organism should be labeled, it (GMO) is not required by law. According to the article “Connecticut Approves Labeling Genetically Modified Foods”, Connecticut is the first state to pass a bill that would require food manufacturers to label products that contain genetically modified ingredients.” There are more than 20 other states considering labeling laws, including New York, Vermont and Maine.
