A strip of magnesium (Mg) ribbon was cut with a scissor. Said piece had a length of 6 cm, and a weight of 0.071 g. The magnesium piece was rolled into a compact ribbon. After that, with copper turnings the mg piece was covered. Next, 700-mL of water was placed into a 1000-mL beaker. Then, the copper-wrapped magnesium was placed in the beaker.
A 100-mL graduated cylinder was filled completely with water. After, said cylinder was covered with a small piece of paper towel over the entire rim, and it was allowed to absorb the water. As a caution to avoid a disaster, the 100-mL was inverted in the sink. Next, with an extreme caution and shaking hands, the cylinder was placed in the 1000-mL beaker.
