Abstract
The purposes of this experiment are to become familiar with the anatomy and behavior of Planaria and make a design to test which aspect of diffusion gradient model which will cause development. The body parts of planaria was observed under a microscope. The flatworms were cut into 3 parts equally based on the gradient model . After a week, the new body parts were observed to have regenerated into new species. The hypothesis was rejected because the results did not match the hypothesis

The hypothesis will be tested during the experiment. Students will create a gradient model. On the basis of the gradient model, the experiment will be done. The hypothesis of my group was that, if we cut the planaria into three parts equally, it will grow three identical planarians because the chemical substance of gradient will be enough for the worm to know where to grow the correct body parts. After the observations, students will realise whether to accept or reject the hypothesis.
A diffusion gradient model was created in this experiment. Development is established by a gradient of chemical substance (morphogen). Cells sense morphogen. In this experiment, our gradient model was created based on our hypothesis that is if a planaria is cut into three equal parts it will regenerate and grow new parts. The flatworm was cut horizontally into three equal parts. Starting from the head to the tail. The morphogen characterized in the wounds will cause regeneration. (McMillan 36). The diffusion gradient model

On the second observation, the flatworms were now five. Some of the worms had regenerated and given birth to new ones
The timing of blastema formation from the results of observations and results of this experiment is approximately 5 days. That is, after 5 days the wounded cells form mass of cells. This cells regenerate into body parts and the flatworm becomes a whole. Cellular differentiation occurs in planaria by dedifferentiation. During the regenerative processes, cells move back to earlier their earlier stages. Differentiation in planaria occurs during the early stages of regeneration so about 1-3 days after the cut.

    3. The earthworm has a segmented body with a mouth at the anterior end and an anus at the posterior end. It has a smooth, purple dorsal side and a rough, yellow ventral side with setae. Two sperm grooves run along the body from segment 15 (where sperm ducts are also located) to the clitellum, which looks like a tube surrounding the earthworm’s body and is closer to the anterior end. 4.…

In order to control the growth and help those who suffer from injuries, defects and degenerative diseases, scientists must learn about the natural molecular tools that animals use to repair damage to their bodies. The medical capabilities of treating patients to regrow limbs or completely regenerate neurons are still a distant goal.…

In this lab, we took four separate onion bulbs, labeled them A,B,C, and D, and put them in a beaker filled with water. We recorded the growth in number of roots and their average length for days one, two, and five. Then we put Bulbs B, C, and D in beakers with different amounts of caffeine and left Bulb A in water. We then recorded the number of roots and their average length on days two, three, and four. After that, we took and onion root form Bulbs A, B, C, and D, stained them, and looked for cells going through mitosis.…

Pinworms (Enterobius vermicularis) is a worm that is shaped like a small bracelet that live in the lower part of the digestive tract. A person exposed to the pinworms infection, also known as oxyuriasis. Pinworms infection most often occurs in children, could even affect up to two-thirds of children aged 5-10 years. The worm, which on average has a body length of 5 to 13 millimeters, usually put its eggs on the folds of skin around the anus at the time the sufferer being asleep.…

Inside the planarian the space between the organs is filled with a solid mass of tissue called parenchyma (Wenemoser, 2011). These, tissue mainly consists of types of differentiated cells, such as different types of gland cells, and many undifferentiated cells, such as neoblasts (Wenemoser, 2011). Planarians have two forms of reproduction; asexual reproduction by fission, and sexual reproduction involving a male partner (Newmark and Alvarado,…

Introduction This experiment was conducted to measure the change in the Planarian’s speed according to different light frequencies. This experiment is relevant to a Planarian’s natural life as Planaria live in many different environments, and under several light variations. Planaria are found in both salt and fresh water, as well as amidst logs, soil, and a variety of plants (Conservation Commission of Missouri, 2015). This immense variety of environments corresponds with a variety of light sources, colors, frequencies and intensities.…

Next to the stimulus column, there will be three columns titled “number of mealworms in stimulus chamber after 1 minute”, “number of mealworms in stimulus chamber after 2 minutes”, and “number of mealworms in stimulus chamber after 3 minutes”. Under each of the three columns relating to the minutes passed, the corresponding data will be collected for each stimulus. The control group is when no stimuli will be placed in the chamber opposite the mealworms and the number of mealworms in the chamber where there was no stimulus will be collected. The constants in the experiment are the…

Planaria Regeneration Lab We have been learning about the regenerative properties of stem cells. Stem cells are able to reproduce more stem cells and also produce cells that can differentiate into all of your tissues that you need. Some organisms have cells that do this almost all the time!! We will be looking at planarian and seeing if their cells can differentiate into the tissues they need after you dissect them.…

Roundworms need to depend on diffusion, or the natural spreading of particles from a high to a low concentration, for their circulation, excretion, and respiration, as they also have no circulatory system like the flatworms. In roundworms, the fluid and muscles that are contained in the pseudocoelom operate as a hydrostatic skeleton, or an exoskeleton that maintains its form due to the pressure of fluid inside the skeleton. Roundworms have two nerve cords that transmit impulses in the roundworm. Also, they are able to reproduce sexually by internal…

1.1 Describe stages of development from conception to birth. When an egg is fertilised it is a single cell called a Zygote, in the next 24-36 hours the single cell will divide into two cells, 12 hours after it will divide into four cells, and will carry on dividing which forms a cluster of cells which are called a monula. Three – four days after it has been fertilised the monula will move from the fallopian tube and will enter the uterus. At about six days the monula will form a hollow cavity which is known as a blastocyst. The blastocyst will burrow itself into the uterus lining this is called implantation.…
