Soccer is a really interesting sport that is played in multiple countries around of the world. The sport has many different names depending on where the sport is played. The sport is called futból in Spanish speaking countries and it goes by soccer in America. Soccer was played very differently in the past, but now it is played the same all around the world. Generally, the field's "length [is] somewhere between 100 yards and 130 yards and the width between 50 and 100 yards" (ussoccerplayers.com). For international games, the rules are a little stricter and they have different dimensions for the fields. The sport's origins are very unclear because the concept of the game is so simple and it was very easy for multiple countries to come up with the concept and play it. Records of the game being played was found in parts of China, Greece, Rome, Central America, and England. The rules for the game back then varied from how it is played today. During the Renaissance, people played games very similar to modern day soccer. La soule is a mass soccer game played in very large crowds. La soule was very violent and unlike modern day soccer, they were allowed to use their hands, sticks, and feet. The game was so violent, in 1440 the bishop threatened to excommunicate the violent game. Another popular game played at that time that is similar to soccer is Calcio. Calcio was more regulated than La soule. The rules of the game is to get a ball into a certain spot (normally a homemade goal) and only two teams of 25 men can play at a certain time.
