La Mara Salvatrucha (Ms-13)

Americans generally want to believe they live in a country of safety, freedom, and well-being. They don’t want real crime where they live in the suburbs because that’s only something that happens in impoverished countries and areas of the country that no one vacations to. The truth of the matter is that we have well organized and established gangs in America working with entities such as Daesh, Al-Qaeda, Taliban, Hezbollah, and others right here in our backyards. One of the major players in this atrocious arrangement is La Mara Salvatrucha, more commonly known as MS-13. MS-13 is a Los Angeles based gang comprised of mostly Salvadorans and people of other Central American descent. They have long controlled the flow of drugs, weapons, and illegal aliens coming in though the porous border we share with Mexico. Over decades they have grown from a small gang designed to protect Salvadoran immigrants being exploited by other established gangs in Los Angeles to a criminal organization comprised of 30,000 to 50,000 members spread all across the United States with thousands in other countries as well. This money can be traced back to terror organizations originated in the Middle East. We have criminal gangs working alongside terrorists for mutual benefit even though they may have very different end goals. It’s a classic example of two previous unrelated groups with different ideals working together to facilitate each other. The minor players in each of these groups may not see the big picture and actually hold personal beliefs contradictory to the other group but be working for them in a roundabout way unbeknownst to them. This is the definition of a hybrid threat and it’s happening every single day most of the time completely unknown to the average
