La Horde Movie Analysis

The movie I chose to watch is called, La Horde. Which in English translates to, The Horde. This French zombie film boasts gruesome and bloodthirsty zombies who are taking over Paris. I unearthed this film while browsing the movies selection in the library and found it delightfully entertaining. First off, the movie is in French with English subtitles, which was surprisingly easier to watch compared to their poor imitation of lip-synching English. Moving on to your specific questions, I came across quite a few reviews of this film, however, two stuck out to me more than the others. Starting with Duncan Bowles review on the site, Den of Geek. This evaluation of the film, I felt was dead on (no pun intended) Bowels compares the film to other great zombie depictions such as, The Walking Dead, Shaun of the Dead, and Night of the Living Dead. Here he finds great fault in the French film as being to “played-out”. This reviewer also criticizes the film as being too “racist and sexist”, which I can someone agree with. The first major difference is how the zombies move. In “most” American films they are slowing moving and easy to get away from. In this film, the move faster and are stronger than their living counterparts. Furthermore, the zombies in this film are smarter than the average American zombie. Shifting to the comparable attributes between the film. The old vet is probably my best example. He mentions fighting in Dien Bien Phu, which is comparable to the Tet offensive of the Vietnam War. This reference is very similar to American films of this genre because of the crazy old vet. I found this aspect to be one of the best comparisons to our culture film. Even with all of these references the film is still a great gory cheaply maid film and I would recommend watching
