Question 1: What did I learn about the nature and activity of God?
In Isaiah 1:18-20 God sees the sins of the people of Israel and they are scarlet colour, but He promises to make them white as snow I 'd the will only obey Him. He will even feed them. However God tells Israel if they don 't listen to Him, they will be devoured by their enemies.
God was revealing the need for Israel to rely upon Him. He was demonstrating that they need to depend on Him or be vanquished by their enemies.
Many people fail to see that they rely upon others or themselves instead of relying upon God. Isaiah states that, “And the haughtiness of man shall be humbled, and the lofty pride of men shall be brought low, and the Lord alone will be exalted in that day” (Isaiah 2:17 ESV). The scripture reveals that God has brought judgement upon Israel in Isaiah 4:4. Isaiah records, ”when the Lord shall have washed away the filth of the daughters of Zion, and cleansed the bloodstains of Jerusalem from its midst by a spirit of judgment and by a spirit of burning” (Isaiah 4:4 ESV). God declares in Jeremiah that his judgment is against Judah and Jerusalem because of all their evil they did against God (Jeremiah 1:16 ). The scripture revealed that they had worshiped idols, which God had warned them about. The scripture also reveals the God has not only brought judgement, but He is using this process to refine His people. The Apostle Peter wrote, “So that the tested genuineness of your faith—more precious than gold that perishes, though it is tested by fire—may be found to result in praise and glory and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ” (1Peter 1:7 ESV). The scripture is revealing to us that God can use calamities in life to refine His people the way He decides. God says in Jeremiah 9:7 that He will refine His Children and He will test
