Giavanna Hunt Mrs. Schools APUSH 18 December 2017 Antietam Book Review Crossroads of Freedom: Antietam by James McPherson September 17, 1862 is remembered as the bloodiest day in American history. On this fateful day during the American Civil War, Union and Confederate soldiers clashed in Sharpsburg, Maryland along the Antietam Creek. In total, approximately 23,000 American lives were lost on this gory day, including 12,400 Union soldiers and 10,300 Confederate soldiers. Although the Union claimed this battle as their victory, the Americans on both sides suffered great losses that changed the course of the Civil War and altered American history. In choosing to read this book, I knew that I would gain a greater understanding of the military strategies and actions performed by both the Rebels and the Yankees.…
East Liberty is a cultural diverse area in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania's East End. Its beginnings came around the time of the Revolutionary War and East Liberty was a free, grazing area in Allegheny County a few miles away from a burgeoning new town called Pittsburgh. Back then the term "liberty" was used to describe a plot of land on the outskirts of a town. In about 1843, commercialism began industrializing the area, thus changing the formerly farmland to a village. In the 1960's shopping malls were added to aid in localizing business.…
Furthermore, even though the high and unfair taxes highly affected the colonist, the cause for aspiration of democracy was that colonist weren’t represented in the British Parliament. Due to the limitations that the Stamp Act, and many more, enforced cause Americans to boycott and protest in order to get involve in the British government. The Sons of Liberty, a group of workers and laborers that were against the high taxations, fought for the rights of the colonist “…the Sons of Liberty found it necessary to use their influence to moderate the resentments of the people…” (70). What is more, the Sons of Liberty were responsible for the Boston Tea Party, by which King George responded by passing the Coercive Acts, therefore restraining the rights…
Ayn Rand wants people to think that when a person loses their right to be an individual or have natural human things like family and love, life becomes meaningless to the ones taking part in it. The story portrays the suffering the citizens undergo by not being free and how they cannot understand their awful situation. Near the end of the novel it is shown that life gains meaning when people are allowed to be different and given choices to do the things they love. In Equality’s case he loves Liberty, The Golden One, and creating things for the use of others. This is proven when Equality says “But the only things which taught us joy were the power we created in our wires, and the Golden One.”…

All people are entitled to freedom. When that right is taken away, people have no choice but to fight back. Jewad Selim always dreamed about having his most meaningful work at the capital of Iraq. The piece is called Nasib Al Hurea (Monument of Freedom), located in Tehrir Square, Baghdad. This was the largest monument built in Iraq in 2500 years.…
In this essay, I will be talking about what America means to me. I will be talking about 3 main ideas. The first idea is valor, which is great courage in the face of danger. The second idea is independence, the idea of being independent. The last idea is liberty, an idea where it is the state of being free, within the society.…
The Effects of Reconstruction After reading Voices of Freedom, the chapter that really resonated with me was “‘What is Freedom?’” : Reconstruction” In this chapter, the overall theme or topic is the period of time in history when Reconstruction was taking place. Reconstruction can be defined as “something that is being rebuilt after being damaged or destroyed.” After the Civil War finally came to an end in 1865, that “something” that needed rebuilding was our country, as well as the rights of the country 's people. A common question asked about reconstruction was how it affected African Americans.…

What interested me the most in my social studies class were “The Sons of Liberty.” The Sons of Liberty were the masterminds of the boston tea party. “The Boston tea party” is when the colonist of Great Britain had dressed up as indians and dumped all the tea in the harbor.…

Paper #1: Chapters 1-3 of Voices of Freedom Looking back at the whole occurrence of the discovery of the New World it becomes evident the many hardships that the colonial settlers caused which justifies the egocentric intentions of the many Europeans. It seems that even though the settlers were fleeing from a country that forced views among themselves or caused unjust situations; the colonists were precisely acting on the foreign population, who they viewed as “lesser”, similarly to that of their homelands. Although at the time the occurrence was not obvious, looking at it from today’s standpoint, it is quit ironic. On more than one instance the settlers treated distinctive groups with an inhumane disrespect with no regard to their well-being.…
