LGBTQI Community Analysis

The rapidly growing LGBTQI community is facing serious diversity issues within the United States. A goal of mine related to human diversity that has had a tremendous influence on developing my interest in social work is to help develop better programs and more assistance for the LGBTQI community. More specifically, I would like to come up with better ways to assist LGBTQI individuals who have fallen victim to intimate partner violence or domestic violence. Throughout my undergraduate coursework, I have learned that many of the services offered to heterosexual domestic violence victims are not compatible for LGBTQI victims. I want to be molded into the best social worker that I can be and I feel as though being granted the opportunity to get an education from Barry will help me reach my ultimate goal. Additionally, based on alumni testimonials I have read and research I have done related to Barry alumni, this program provided graduates with a solid background in the social work field and has contributed to several individuals receiving great job opportunities upon completion of the program. Many alumni have received prestigious social worker awards and have accredited their education that they received from Barry as a contributing factor in the success of their careers. I have explored many social work programs however, Barry’s mission statement, curriculum, small class-sizes and emphasis on field education is everything that I am looking for in a graduate program in order to prepare for my future of helping others. I am passionate about the field of social work and I am willing to put in all the time and effort that it takes to be successful in this program. I am a strong believer in hands on learning (fieldwork) and my number one priority is my education. My education is extremely important to me and is what comes first at all times. To me being resilient not only means successfully overcoming an obstacle, but it also means working even harder than you did before the set back. The profession of a social worker is very rewarding, however I recognize the challenges that it entails. Enduring the emotional demands of the job can be very stressful and frustrating at times, nevertheless it is imperative to remember that there are people in need depending on you, which is why being resilient is so important to me as someone who hopes to one day be a great social
