In a way it is quite unusual to be a gay person in diverse an assumed to be original town like of Houston. This is in no way bashing the city in any way but particularly just throwing my two cents to grow up as a gay Mexican American and discovering the gay community. The smell of liquor and stench of sweaty people around you isn’t the combination that is flattering. I didn’t grow up with the same freedom most of this people did and is was quite clear. I grew up in a Mexican family with the belief of my mom weighing down on us like an iron fist.…

I am writing to you in hopes that I might persuade you to look deeply into the importance of LGBT rights . I strongly believe that gay rights are human rights , no one should ever have to be facing discrimination for their sexual presence , especially by their own government . I believe gay rights should be acknowledged and preserved by the US government . A quote I stand by is “ privilege is presuming to speak for others you know nothing about” gay Americans are still Americans who deserve equal rights as every heterosexual person in this country .…

The word ‘Queer’ particularizes members of gender and sexual minorities who are not heteronormative , heterosexual nor gender-binary. These individuals live their lives outside of socially conventional heteronormative constructs that dictate ones actions and dress code in accordance to his or her accredited gender (Nolan 2013:1). With the news filled with stories of gay rights lawsuits filed for unfair treatment towards homosexuals, it is tempting to think there is a good sized percentage of homosexuals in America. Heterosexual men have a lower rate, being 7% with a homosexual experience, and only 5% with genital contact (figure 1).…
