Progression is a slow and study process though which is why media about LGBT still contains stereotypes and catering issues. Catering in this case defined as showing the masses what they want to see. The masses themselves not all being LGBT. The people in this case are chosen are essentially just there to fill the slot of a pretty face. This attributes to the problem of catering. Straight white women seeming to contribute to a portion of consumption. The women seeming to enjoy content featuring gay men. While men enjoy content involving lesbians (the feminine kind). On the high end you appear to have the positive (if misguided) portrayals on the low end of entertainment media you have the downright criminalization and forced heteronormativity of LGBT media. LGBT can be put into violent criminal roles. One such example being a ovie of a serial killer who practically blames what he does on him being gay. This portrays anything other than heterosexuality as wrong. This brings in the concept of the homophobic/transphobic frame. The homophobic/ transphobic frame is fed by people’s misinterpretations and fears of LGBT. For example, how LGBT content in mainstream media is portrayed on a heteronormative scale. Real attempts of showing outside maybe a hug or a kiss are looked down on or seen as disgusting. This proves true for heterosexual men who can’t stand to see outride gay content. Where they find lesbian content fine. Where the more feminine lesbian is overly sexualized for the male gaze’s enjoyment. While homophobic women can’t stand to look at gay or lesbian
