The experiences of LGBT people in the defence force are moving towards greater social inclusion. By serving in the defence force individuals receive many benefits, such as free medical care. Yet the treatment towards LGBT members in the defence force have been unfortunate and treated unfairly, however the Australian defence force is working towards social inclusion to all LGBT+ members.
The topic of LGBT+ people in the defence force relates to me because I am a bisexual female, with a family member in the defence force. I am certain that the LGBT’s values and beliefs will contribute to a better understanding of society and culture by looking at different countries and their culture on the LGBT community, especially in the army. …show more content…
The website that was most valuable to me for my research was DEFGLIS, which stands for “Defence Force Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender and Intersex Information Service”. With this website I found how the defence force can support the LGBT people with a strong supportive community by providing peer support to one another. They can strengthen the defence force capability through ideas that promote inclusion of LGBT people. Additionally, the army can help educate people about LGBT matters to the Defence force community. …show more content…
