LES Model: Strength And Weaknesses

For this assignment my partner taught the first original lesson. After she had taught the lesson with her students, we discussed some of the strengths and weaknesses that she faced. What we found was that the LES format was a strength and weakness for her lesson. The students that she taught the lesson to were not accustomed to hands-on exploratory activities. My partner stated that because these students had never engaged in an activity formatted in the LES model, things became slightly chaotic. While the LES format did lead to some weaknesses, we also considered it a strength because the students benefited from the experience of a new way of learning. The group of students that I was working with was also not accustomed to having hands on activities. To address these difficulties before I taught the lesson with my students, we discussed how we could better prepare the students for a more interactive activity. Despite this fact it was still very beneficial to see how the first set of student reacted to the LES model. By being able to get feedback from my partner I was better able to prepare my students for a LES model lesson. Throughout our tasks a majority of the questions that I liked best from what we asked were the ones that allowed the students to explore. In the second grade lesson we allowed the students explore the pennies they were working with. I really enjoyed this because it allowed the students to create their own observations. As well with the third grade students, I allowed them to explore and make observations about the data that the second grade students provided us with.
