Right after Dianetics was published, Hubbard left freelance writing to continue writing on the subject. During this time, he also delivered over four thousand lectures on the subject. At this time, when Hubbard was thirty-eight, he claims that he had been researching Dianetics for thirty-five years, meaning that he started his research when he was three. Hubbard writes that he has found the source of all mental illnesses, which are engrams. Dianetics sees mind blocks by emotionally traumatic memories called engrams. In this book, all patients had to get the engrams removed. Hubbard believed that a “Clear” patient was “to a current normal individual as the current normal is to the severely insane”. In the 1940’s, Hubbard started to incorporate concepts from eastern and modern psychology in Dianetics. There is no proof, but it is said, that a person cured by Dianetics has a higher IQ, heals faster, has better eyesight, and that never gets colds.
