L Ouverture: The Haitian Revolution

The Haitian Revolution took place in Haiti, which is part of an the island Hispaniola. The island of Hispaniola was split into two parts, Santo Domingo (the Spanish Side) and St. Dominique (the French side and also known as Haiti). St. Dominique’s economy was mainly agriculture based and because of this there were many slaves. These slaves were mistreated and wanted to be free. In 1791, the Haitian Revolution began when slaves in the colony rebelled. France tried to end the rebellion by giving the free black man rights and abolishing slavery which gave General Toussaint L'Ouverture an opportunity to take over. He wanted to get rid of all British and Spanish influences in Haiti. This resulted in a war but in the end L'Ouverture was successful and war came to an end 1804. Industrialization began in Britain because Britain had the resources needed for industrialization and was a politically stable society. The industrialization of Britain began with the textile industry and spread from there. During the industrialization of Britain, Britain became extremely wealth and many innovations were made to increase productivity. In fact, the Industrial Revolution is the reason why we have steam power and the cotton gin. There were factories and mines everywhere. This event was significant because it was the beginning of the Industrial Revolution and if the Industrial Revolution had never happened we would not be the world we are today. This event relates to imperialism (Opium Wars) because due to the industrialization, nations started to run out of resources. This led them to traveling to faraway places in order to colonize places that had resources. One of these places was China and at first they paid China in gold/silver but eventually started paying them Opium. However China didn’t want to accept the opium which led to the Opium
