Hunter mentions Matthew Shepard, who we learned about in class. Matthew Shepard was an openly gay college student who was kidnapped, beaten, and left to die tied to a fence by two men in the 1990’s. The two men who murdered Shepard admitted to killing him because he was gay (“Matthew Shepard” movie from class). Unfortunately, Matthew Shepard is only one of the many LGBTQ victims of hate crimes. As described in Hunter’s story, one of his friends has been beaten several times because of her sexual identity. It is hard to imagine that so many people can be so hateful and go out of their way to cause harm to someone
