This civil rights movement started on the date of May 4 of 1961. When these events occurred the freedom riders were recruited by the CORE which was formed by the government. As time went on the freedom riders tried to help the cause by trying to split these bathrooms between race , but once the idea of this was heard it would be shot down by the whites because of all of the riots activist. When the group of these so called freedom riders went down south they would see major acts of terrorism which had nearly ten significant explosions within two days of the first journey. As time went on these violent protest were getting worse as buses were burned and civil rights activist were killed. At one time in this journey the freedom riders had to call RFK (Kennedy's brother) to send SWAT soldiers to protect them while they were traveling from Montgomery to Jackson. From the time that they were on the road to the time in the towns three of the thirteen were killed. As this was seen across the nation the North banded together to form the freedom riders of the north. The freedom rides are a major part of Kevin Durant's life especially sense he is
