Kylee And Fridays-Personal Narrative

Decent Essays
I saw it for the first time at my elementary school’s book fair.
The cheetah head. A fuzzy keychain with googly eyes and long wiry whiskers and a zipper mouth filled with cheetah facts. Hanging on a white metal bar with other animal heads. Kylee and I looked at each other at the same time with the same look in our eyes. It was the cutest thing we have ever seen and we needed to have it.
I don’t remember how I met Kylee, but I remember becoming fast friends. Three hour phone calls and playing video games together on Fridays can make that happen. Although we had similar interests, she was the polar opposite of me. Kylee was loud music your parents wanted you to turn down and too much candy that could rot your teeth but you kept eating anyways.

I have been living here at 100 Oakway dr. Richmond, VA for over a year now. As you know, I am in apartment number 2b with apartment number 32c above me. For 3 months now, I have been experiencing loud barking and banging from above. I know already that there should be no animals here in Oakway, but it seems to me that apartment number 32c is not aware, or are not concerned with the rules. I have made several attempts to speak to Ms. Dale about the dog and how loud they are, but she always tells me they are her kids and “kids will be kids.”…

When I was in the 10th grade, my high school had begun to do something called Spirit Week. Now, if you do not know what spirit week is this is when you have a different activity for each day of the week, for example on Monday it may be cartoon day and you get to dress as your favorite character. Well, on this day it was “Throwback Thursday” and my friends and I decided that we were going to dress up as TLC. So, that day we talked about everything that we had planned to wear and we decide that we wanted to wear bandanas.…

I’ve been listening to a lot of Jon & Deek in the morning, and in the mid-afternoon, and early evening. Those two (or one?) have me flipping through channels, seeing if I can remember what station NPR or The Keg is on. All I could remember about a station was “the Eagle is classic rock,” and I spent many minutes at red lights flipping through the country music stations trying to be reunited with my old customary station, only to find myself listening to Will Ferrell screech “SAANNTTAA!” on 94.9’s Christmas ad. Nothing was more brutal, and yet familiar than this. There’s no aux cord in my 2002 Honda, and it spits out cd’s when I put them in, and I can’t make myself realize that I’m not motivated enough to actually listen to NPR on a morning drive, so I resist looking up the tune-in number.…

Several days before the start of our last year in high school, my neighbor and I divided our time between hunting and surfing to end our summer. I really just wanted to go to the beach, but Johnny refused to give up the precious narrow window of time between the start of deer season and the start of the school year. One day, he came into our house uninvited. He charged into my room with a rifle in his hands to wake me up at five in the morning to sit in the deer stand with him that we had set up in the deep, swampy woods behind our houses. This was a normal occurrence of his, seeing as nobody locked their doors in this little hicktown, especially not my mother.…
