This week I read The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss, and I am finished. It has to be the best book I have ever read. The story centers on the recollections of the main character, Kvothe. Kvothe tells his life story to a traveling scribe who records it. Kvothe is a famous arcanist and is a prime figure in the history of the world. Kvothe has learned and traveled with his family, called the Ruh, and with other famous performers. After his family is killed by the Chandrian, a mythical group of evil demons, Kvothe escapes and lives on the streets of a metropolis, Tarbean. He then enrolls at the University. At University, Kvothe learns magic, writing, and math. While at school, Kvothe skips class for a few days to Investigate a massacre …show more content…
He has a history of reckless bravery. When he was young, he talked to mysterious strangers and wandered around. This reckless bravery tended to get him into trouble. It nearly killed him on the streets of Tarbean when he angered Pike. His reckless bravery also caused him difficulty when dealing with Master Hemme, a University professor. The master wanted to embarrass Kvothe for asking to advance to a higher level class. When Kvothe did not get his way, he wanted to turn the tables, but he did not comprehend the consequences. In retrospect Kvothe says: “He was giving me enough rope to hang myself with. Apparently he didn't realize that once a noose is tied it will fit one neck as easily as another” (Rothfuss 240). Kvothe’s reckless bravery also gets him into trouble when he composes a song making fun of a rich, snobby student, Ambrose. Conversely, Kvothe’s habit for reckless bravery can also benefit others and even save lives. Kvothe saves the town of Trebon from a draccus. Another time he saved Fela from the catastrophic fire in the fishery, a place designed to study and create magical artifacts. His reckless bravery helps society and causes others to see him in a better light: “It occurred to me that they didn’t see a penniless, ragged boy sitting across from them. They saw a mysterious figure who had killed a demon”(Rothfuss 554). That means that while he can be reckless, sometimes the results can save lives …show more content…
I predict that he will be kicked out of the University for one of two reasons. The first reason he may be kicked out because he will be seen in the Archives. The other would be if he would be if he were caught committing a malfeasance . There are several reasons why either event might happen. The Archives are basically a big library at the University. Kvothe became banned from the Archives after he was caught handling an open flame there. (This is one of the reasons why Kvothe hates Ambrose, since it was Ambrose who got Kvothe banned from the Archives.) Later in the book, Kvothe found a secret way into the Archives though a hidden air vent going into the buried University under the University. If he were to be caught in the Archives, he would be expelled from the University. Fela exclaims this in the quote: “Lorren will bust a vessel! Do you want us to get both expelled?”(Rothfuss 603). This means that if anyone found him in the Archives, he would be banished from his only home. Since few people know about him having access to the Archives. a more likely reason that he will be expelled would be if he is convicted of a crime, or if he causes so much ruckus that the masters are forced to expel him. There was a glimpse of this behavior when Kvothe first called the Name of the Wind. Kvothe subconsciously invoked an explosion of wind when Ambrose broke

In the novel, Something Wicked this way comes, Jim and Will both show courageous acts, however the terms of courage differ. One moment when Will shows courage is when he confronts the Dust Witch. When the Dust Witch came in the balloon, Will decides to fight back with his archery kit instead of hiding. Even when the Bow shattered into pieces he “drew back and with all his strength threw the arrowhead” (p.151). Towards the end of the novel, Will continues to show courage.…

In the novel Battle Royal, I feel as if it is a story full of subliminal messages. At this time of the story there is still segregation of some sort I believe. So therefore, young black males and females were still looked down upon. As the in the story as the grandfather mentioned it is a war that we are fighting and we have to “keep up the good fight.” The grandfather on his death bed referenced himself as a spy, and told his son to “Live with your head in the lion’s mouth.…
