Looting and widespread panic took place and the Kuwaiti government looked towards external sources for help. The U.S. President, George Bush, gave Saddam Hussein a deadline. On January 16, 1991, the Iraqi government did not withdraw their troops. As a result, the U.S. military forces moved into Saudi Arabia. Although Saddam did not feel intimidated, he launched many surface to surface missiles trying to deter the U.S. front. At the back of the United States’ military was a Patriot missile battalion out of Fort Bliss, TX. The Patriot missile system was equipped with surface to air missiles capable of neutralizing the threat of any incoming missile. The Patriot battalion did its part and saved many lives in doing so.
