Kurt Iswarienko is an American photographer and director known for capturing intimate and emotionally charged performances from some of the world’s most prolific actors, athletes, and personalities. Kurt got his start in the industry in the late 90’s, when he found himself working “swing” on a Revco commercial in upstate New York in the dead of a legendary Rochester winter. At the time, Kurt was a film student at the nearby Rochester Institute of Technology. After three days on the Revco job, Kurt had made up his mind to quit film school and move to Los Angeles to find work as a lighting technician.
Arriving with nothing more than a beat up Honda and the phone number of the gaffer from the Revo job, Kurt Iswarienko spent his first years in Hollywood working as a lighting technician for some of the most prolific cinematographers in the business before going on to build up a provocative portfolio featuring images for high profile ad campaigns as well as portraits of a wide array of A-list celebrities. He became known for his cinematic style, bringing a rugged new Hollywood glamour to photography.
Over the years, what has emerged as one of the keystones of Kurt’s style is his ability to elicit openness and trust from some of the most private well known figures in the world. His easy going manner allows him to capture a natural candidness and a sense of movement, as though his images are stills from a film. This arresting authenticity has become a signature of his work.
