When the Nazi’s were starting to take over Gerron was offered to go to Hollywood for an acting career, but he refused wanting to stay in Europe. By this decision he was sent to Westerbork transit camp in 1942 by the Nazi’s and ultimitaly sent to Theresienstadt. In Theresienstadt he was forced by his history of acting and directing and was forced to create a propaganda film to trick the nearby countries of the ‘Human living conditions’ the prisoners were in. This film was called “Der Fuhrer Schenkt Den Juden Eine Stadt” or “The Fuhrer Gives a City to the Jews”. This is because we feel he belongs with the other hollywood stars and should be just as much or even more respect. This memorial isn’t supposed to be very interactive except for the music. His greatest performance of “Mack the Knife” a big accomplishment for Kurt is playing through the dark theater. This memorial isn’t to mourn but more melancholy. It’s supposed to show how even though we worship all these stars they are humans just like us. Kurt Gerron was a war veteran he pursued acting and made it his career. No matter how one looks at this a star is human and they move, breathe, think, live, and die just like everyone

Journal 1 After the first two weeks of lecture in Cinema Appreciation I have learned a great deal more about what goes into making a film. Rothenberg, the director of “The 100”, successfully uses lighting and film techniques to convey the story’s theme, loss of innocence. Loss of innocence plays a major role in developing the character of Bellamy Blake as he changes from a kind brother to a cruel and harsh character. In the novel, Bellamy thinks Sasha is involved in the disappearance of his sister and the author states “The next time blood was [is] spilled in the camp, it was [is] going to be hers” (Morgan 106). The author shows the power of the relationship between Bellamy and his sister, as he is willing to do anything to get her back, even if it means losing himself in the process. In the adaptation, this scene shows Bellamy thinking about his sister, as a close-up shot of the knife in his hands is shown under low-key lighting.…
