Kurt Cobain Informative Speech

Superior Essays
“Peace, love, empathy. Kurt Cobain,” and like that the famous, musical genius signed his name at the bottom of his suicide note, only to tragically die shortly after. Kurt Cobain was the singer and guitarist for the punk-rock band named Nirvana. He was known for his voice that sounded more like a melodic scream and producing a wailing guitar sound which consisted of a lot of feedback to make his music sound as obscene as possible. Other than Cobain’s signature sound, Nirvana was known for their high energy concerts that reflected anger and free spirit as Cobain thrashed his body about the stage as if he were having a seizure. Nirvana first began as a small, underground band only playing at local bars and small venues around and in Seattle, …show more content…
Nirvana’s bassist, Krist Novoselic, recalls playing “in a worn down, old house. We’d play in front of five people.” The band did not care about how popular they were, instead they cared about the music they were producing. As the Seattle music scene began to mold around this punk-rock music, people quickly renamed it grunge. Nirvana and their music would eventually explode into the mainstream and lead, what many called a revolution, with their most famous song, “Smells like Teen Spirit.” Cobain, who already struggled with drug abuse and depression, “was never able to adjust to his extraordinary success” which would lead him to become suicidal. On April 8, 1994, Kurt Cobain’s body was found dead due to a fatal self-inflicted shotgun wound to the head. A conspiracy soon arose which suggested murder could have been the cause of Cobain’s death; however, the evidence of suicide heavily outweighs the arguments …show more content…
In fact, mental health problems, such as depression and addiction, ran in both sides of his family so it is not very surprising that he suffered from severe depression. “Several of his relatives had attempted suicide or died from it” which only put Cobain at more of a risk of committing suicide himself. By factoring in the multiple failed suicide attempts he had, it is clear that Cobain’s suicide was not a matter of if it would happen, but when it would happen. One of the first serious thoughts of suicide crossed Cobain’s mind in 1982 when he was at the young age of fifteen; he decided he was going to “not sit on my roof and think about jumping but I’ll actually kill myself.” In 1992, he tried to convince Courtney Cobain, his wife, to join him in a suicide pact but his wife quickly grabbed the gun and talked him out of it. In 1994, during the last month of his life, Cobain would attempt suicide two more times. It was evident that the musician desperately desired to end his life. The first of these two attempts occurred in Rome while trying to receive medical treatment. He overdosed on a tranquilizer, called Rohypnol, while under the influence of alcohol. Cobain was rushed to the hospital where he was luckily stabilized. He was soon sent home, to Seattle, to recover. Nine days later, Courtney “called the police to their Seattle home after Cobain locked

Firstly, Kurt Cobain killed himself on April 5th,1994 3 days prior to when they found him which was on April 8th, 1994. Dylan Carson, one of his close friends was ordered by Kurt to bring him his shotgun because he heard intruders on his property but maybe the “Intruders” did something to kill him or even killed him themselves. That was not the case because the Seattle Police Department said it could’ve been self-inflicted but maybe just maybe they’re just hiding the truth from the public and the beloved fans of Nirvana.…

The physical evidence proves it to not be suicide. How can a person live through a shot to the chest with a pistol, reload the pistol while still trying to breath, twist his arm in such a manner, and shoot himself again in the back of the head and live through that as well as afterwards, ask for a drink and crawl into his bed to die. It doesn’t make sense for him to do that. The evidence isn’t there to support a suicide and the first witness has changed her story three times and can now not be trusted as a source. This was a…

The documentary that I chose for this project was “Soaked in Bleach”. It was directed by Benjamin Statler, and produced and written by Donnie Eichar and Richard Middleton. This documentary is about Kurt Cobain’s untimely death and how it could have been set up by his ‘loving’ wife Courtney Love. The plot consists of old documents and photographs of Kurt Cobain’s suicide and it debunks some misconceptions about it. It also gives reenactments of some of the situations he had dealt with before this tragedy, and interviews with people involved in\ it.…

The original version of “Smells Like Teen Spirit” by Nirvana evokes the mood of rebellious teens hanging out with their friends and possibly doing something drug related. The lyrics “Load up your guns, bring your friends.
