My purpose for writing this essay was to persuade my audience to want to watch the movie, Kung Fu Panda 3. Since my audience includes everyone, I could not assume that everyone had watched the movie; I had to describe the characters. For example I described Po as the Panda, Li as Po’s father and Tigress as the tiger. In order to convince the audience how great the movie is, I used dialogues in the film to further clarify my positions. One of my positions is that Kung Fu Panda 3 demonstrates humor through dialogues and character’s response to serious situation. I wrote the dialogue between Po and Li to explain that Li and Po attitude and the crowd’s gasp makes the conversation funny. I utilized another dialogue between Kai, the villain, and the bunny and the goose to describe how the bunny and the goose acted towards Kai’s evil demeanor. I stated how Kai’s evil demeanor did not scare the bunny and the goose from letting him know that they do not know him. Also, if the audience chooses to watch Kung Fu Panda 3 they will be able to make a connection through the movie cultural theme and their personal life. The cultural theme I identify in the film is finding one’s identity. I focused on the movie strategy of repeating the question, “Who am I,” throughout the whole movie to demonstrate how the movie used the theme to focus the audience’s attention. We did and activity called Discovering A Cultural Theme to help us better understand the concept of a “cultural theme”. In this activity, I wrote my desire that will provide me personal fulfillment and how it is expressed in the media. I said my desire is to become a cardiovascular surgeon and it is expressed in real life television of Untold Story of the E.R. This class activity helped me write the textual analysis essay because it helped me to comprehend the concept of cultural theme and aid me identify the cultural theme in the Clinique’s “Face Forward” advertisement. We identified sentences in our textual analysis essay that contained twenty five words or more and tried to turn it into fewer words. We did a free writing exercise in class on our documented argument and my topic was on abortion; this exercise helped me write my introductory paragraph of the documented argument
