Around 1865 to 1866, the Ku Klux Klan was founded in the town of Pulaski, Tennessee, as a response to reconstruction. Confederate Veterans, John Kennedy, Frank McCord, John Lester, Calvin Jones, James Crowe, and Richard Reed, were the six founders of the Ku Klux Klan. They were well educated and grew up in wealthy families. Since there were not many jobs around Pulaski, everyone was restless and had nothing to do. One tragedy the Ku Klux Klan had caused was the murder of three civil rights workers, named Andrew Goodman, Michael Schwerner and James Chaney. The three men were helping an African American community with voter registration.
