Krumboltz – For Kenyatta, I would utilize the associative learning experiences portion of Krumbolt’z social learning theory. Kenyatta had the chance to come to my school last week to watch myself and a co-worker teach and interact with our students. This experience allowed her to observe us while doing an occupation she is interested which is teaching. These types of experiences allow her to be able to not only have read about what teachers do, but gives her a firsthand account of what goes on in a classroom. While dealing with counselors in the career field, we must remember the clients is the forefront of our concern and it out ultimately responsibility to ensure they are treated as such. We must make sure we respect our clients right to make their own decisions; meaning we should not be posing our own opinions on them or making decisions for them – we must allow clients to be autonomous or we could face ethical difficulties. Additionally, we must ensure we cause no harm. Standard A.1.a of the Code of Ethics state that our primary responsibility in to ensure the welfare of our clients. Furthermore, we must treat all clients fairly and not violate the rights of our other clients or other professionals in the field – this is known as justice. Standard A.4.a states that we should avoid imposing our personal values on our clients and that we should respect the diversity of our clients at all times. Another ethical issue that could occur in the career counseling setting would be the breaking of confidentiality agreements. Career counseling is less “life/mental health issue” related than the other counseling fields, and a counselor could forget that although they are counseling a client for career purposes that other information is often revealed that needs to be kept confidential – even if we seek guidance and counsel from a colleague who may be more
