In 1889, the space was used as a factory for the Atlanta Stove Works. "The Atlanta Stove Works brought Atlanta a revolutionary idea in the field of cooking – the Barrett Range – made of cast iron" . The cast iron stove business grew to eventually making $35 million a year with employing over 500 people. Being in business almost 100 years, they finally closed their doors in 1987. 17 years later, the abandoned factory was developed into a multi-purpose space consisting of restaurants and offices. 2 years after that, in 2006, Tyler Perry bought the 9-acre land for $7 million from the Atlanta Stove works.
