Improved Essays
It was September 11th, 2001, and Kris Young was at a sponsorship meeting for him and a few other teammates at the North Tower in New York. All of the sudden, Kris heard the sound of a loud crash! He was about 7 floors below where the plane had hit. There was debris falling everywhere. Suddenly, a big piece of wood fell on Kris’s leg. Kris was stuck there with a big piece of wood on his leg that he could not get off. Eventually, Kris’s teammate, Paul Dejong, picked up the piece of wood and located the nearest staircase. Kris would have to fight against the pain of his leg in order to save people. Paul and Kris saved as many lives as they could. All of the players and staff had successfully escaped, but Coach Mike Matheny was nowhere to be found. …show more content…
Kris had left the door open, so he and the coach sprinted out the door and headed towards the stairs. They went down about thirty floors and found a window that was busted open. They looked out the window and found a grappling hook that the firefighters had shot up there. They swung down the the rope attached to the grappling hook and made it to safety about 3 minutes before the tower collapsed. Everyone on the team had safely escaped, including Kris and Coach Matheny. Nothing was worse than looking back at New York City that afternoon. All the damage that had happened was devastating. Now, 16 years later, Kris Young has 7 World Series rings! However, he still remembers what happened 16 years ago. Kris’s leg didn’t take long to heal, he was only in a boot for 4 months. He knows that if that rope that he and Coach Matheny swung down from wasn’t there, he would have 0 World Series rings instead of 7. He is very thankful for those who helped everyone as best as they could. He knows that he was very fortunate to survive, but his heart extends to those who lost loved

The information provided from Goodheart goes more into depth about the historical aspect of the plane and towers involved in the attack other than simply the horrible events in which took place. Adam Goodheart a historian, that gives his insight of how the airplane and the towers put individuals up high and enclose them with other strangers. For readers this selection is an excellent read, the author manages to incorporate a sort of history lesson as well as a description of 9/11. To me the text was exceptionally descriptive, but given Goodheart’s background as an historian that is to be expected. The text provides insight of the history of the airplane and the twin towers, then tells how the two were twisted into weapons of destruction on…
