Originating in Israel, it combines various martial arts techniques, creating a practical and intricate method of self-defense. Per Bob Riha Jr of USA Today ‘’Krav Maga (pronounced KRAHV muh-GAH), Hebrew for "contact combat," is the creation of Imi Lichtenfeld, a who fought with a paramilitary organization during Israel's 1948 war for independence.’’ This essay will analys the methods, developmental history, as well as a live demonstration of Krav Maga.
Lichtenfeld was born to a Jewish family in Slovakia, where he grew up to become a professional boxer, gymnast, and a champion wrestler. He began developing Krav Maga techniques around 1930, when anti-Semitic gangs began terrorizing predominantly Jewish neighborhoods and places of business. Which eventually resulted in modern day krav. He wanted to develop a means of defense that would be as effective as it would be accessible to whom ever needed it, whether that be a business man or a trained soldier. Riha also goes on to say ‘’ Lichtenfeld, who died in 1998, brought Krav Maga to the United States about 20 years ago and first marketed it as a hand-to-hand combat system for police departments.’’2 Freedom Martial Arts in Ludington Michigan looks a whole lot larger on the inside than on the outside. The Jewish people during the late 1930s took many physical and spiritual actions to defend themselves against Adolf Hitler and the Nazis. While they may not have been successful in putting a stop to the genocide, they slowed down the process and drew more attention to the horrors that were taking place. Many Jews refused to let the villains defeat them and chose to die fighting on their own terms. Using armed and unarmed resistance, thousands of Jewish people being affected by the Holocaust went to great lengths to defend their rights and their people.…
