31,000 more people died because of the tsunamis that took place. The highest waves reached 120 feet high. The waves washed onto villages and islands and took plants and people with them. The waves were so strong that 600 ton coral blocks were thrown to shore. Small waves from the tsunami were found all over the world, they went as for as Hawaii.
Since then, a new volcano has formed in the caldera. The volcano's name is Anak Krakatau, meaning child of krakatoa. It was formed because of submarine eruptions, eruptions that take place under water. In 2012, Anak Krakatau reached 1330 feet tall and continues to grow up 16 feet per year. The volcano erupts quite frequently. The most recent eruption was in 2009.
The reason why eruptions from either of these volcanoes are really dangerous is because, there is many people who live in villages around or near them. Krakatoa has wiped out many villages and islands before, and it could certainly do it again. Scientists don’t really know when Krakatoa is going to erupt next, but they know that it will erupt again. The volcano is still making noise to this day, and scientists are watching it closely. They hope that the eruptions in the future won’t be as bad, and they would also like to be able to warn people more about it before it happens and maybe saves some
