Some of the reports came from crew members that were on ships sailing along the Sunda Strait. The vessels were American, British, Dutch, Australian and German. Members from all of these ships witness the events and were able to record what took place. Captain MacKenzie witnessed black clouds hovering above. Across the open sea were grey waterspouts.
