North Korea had South Korea out-numbered by thousands; also, North Korea was well equipped with airplanes, artillery and tanks. South Korea unaware of the attack could not do anything to stop the assault from North Korea. That is where the United States and United Nations came in. The U.S. viewed this dispute as a communist expansion to take over world. Three days later, the South Korean capital of Seoul fell to the North Koreans. UN forces began arriving shortly after the Americans. On July 5th 1950, the American forces began fighting the North Korean forces at Osan, 30 miles south of Seoul. The North Korean forces soon realized that this was a boondoggle of sententious relevance. The American forces began setting a perimeter around the Capitol, Seoul, in order for the UN to begin sending troops in to aid the American forces. In mid September 1950 US X (10) Corps, accompanied by US Marines, sailed from Japan to Inchon, on the northwest coast of South Korea.
On September 15th 1950, the Marines captured the port; this was a huge turning point in the war. The troops who landed in Inchon were able to cut off the North Koreans in the Pusan Perimeter area from those who were north of Inchon. On September 26th the US and UN forces took back over Seoul and set a perimeter defense. China sent in an additional 250,000 soldiers and forced the UN and US to retreat. Allies began moving north again on January 16th 1951, and recaptured Seoul without a skirmish on March 14th
