Korea was influenced by the Confucian culture. Korea was a male-dominated society. There was huge gender discrimination and had patriarchal property which is a social system that males hold primary power and role of leadership of whole family. Therefore, the men tend to go to work and many women stay home and take care for their children. Due to Confucian’s idea, we have to respect elder people so that we have to use different words for elder in order to represent the respect. Furthermore, we have to bow to elder people when we say, “Hi” to them. Even though someone’s social status is low, Korean should represent respect if he or she is older than you. Confucian believes that elder people have various experience with the society and world because they lived longer.
As a women, it was hard to get a good occupation in South Korea. This is because Korean society more likely to think that women who has a child, need to take care her baby instead of working outside. Since their parents or grandparent experienced huge war, which make them to lost their valuable families. They started to share anything for country because they believe everyone is one family. Mostly, they are trying to help each other because they understand how they overcame the difficulties from the war. In this time, many Christian missionaries came to help them to overcome the emotional damages. Many missionaries took care of many orphans even their safety was not protected by anything.
