Sandman Mike

Aboard the anything but luxurious Turgoyak, Fyodor departed on his adventure from the Chilean port of Concon on December 22,2013, heading for Australia’s Brisbane. 160 days later he had covered a distance of 9,300 nautical miles to his destination where he finally touched land. For those of you who do not know one nautical mile is equal to 1.151 miles, I hope that fun fact helps you out the next time you participate in trivia night. Konyukhov completed his solo mission across the Pacific far quicker than anyone has in the past. The International Rowing Society reported that the previous best solo achievement in crossing the Pacific on board a rowboat was 273 days by Jim Shekhdar.

Also, I doubt I could go 160 days confined into such a small space. It’s not like Konyukhov is a stranger to adventure, this trip is just the beginning of a long list of incredible journey’s he has taken. He has completed the 7 summits, reaching the top of the highest peak on each continent. He has made two Mount Everest ascents; he crossed the Atlantic in a rowboat in 46 days (a warm up compared to the Pacific) and he also covered 500 miles on a dog sleigh across
