St. Maximillian Kolbe was born in 1894 in the Kingdom of Poland. "He was a Polish Franciscan and martyr in the German death camp Auschwitz." His brother Francis and himself joined the Fransicans at age 12. He professed his first vows in 1911 at age 18. He then went on to earn a doctorate in philosophy from the Pontificial Gregorian University. (Terese) "He was very active in promoting the immaculate Virgin Mary and is known as the Apostle of consecration to Mary." (Catholic.org)"Kolbe then organized the Militia Immaculata after witnessing demonstrations against Pope St.Pius X and Benedict XV. His main goal was to work for the conversion of sinners and enemies of the church ." (Catholic.org) During his 20's he was ordained a priest and started a periodical called the Knight of the Immaculate. This periodical often touched on Mary related gospel stories and reflections.
When Germany's reign began Kolbe was one of the few to stay in the monastery . He started up a hospital to aid the ones in need. He provided shelter for many Jewish refugees , including 2,000 Jews. He was then arrested by the Germans and Transfered to Aushwitz.(Fraussard) Kolbe never abounded the priesthood during his time in Auschwitz. Love is not a feeling , it is much more. Feelings changed , like I'm sure Kolbe's feelings changed but his love , his loved never changed . He always loved even through the darkest time because he had God. Just like Jesus, he had different feelings about people but his loved for them all never changed . This is why love is often mentioned with St.Maximillian Kolbe's name. His passionate loved for Mary helped him carry him through the darkest of times. His strong bond he had with Mother Mary helped him build a bridge of trust between Himseld and God. This trust enabled him to pursue the life he choose with one-hundred percent
