Kohl's Case Analysis

Another personnel issue that our store faced during my internship was not receiving enough Kohl’s credit sign-ups. This was an instance where I was able to step in as the manager and solve the issue without any pink slips. Once I got the approval to bring candy up to the registers, I began incentivizing the cashiers with a treat for every credit they would earn. As a result of this classical conditioning tactic that I had learned in my Consumer Behavior course, our store made up for our decline in credit sign-ups from the previous month in just one week. My manager was so impressed with this simple idea that we relayed it onto the other stores and incorporated the candy reward jar at the registers regularly to continue the successful strategy. …show more content…
The strategy utilized to implement this plan is promotional events and coupons to deliver to their loyal customers on their products that are already listed below retail prices. When completing their transactions, all of the shoppers are asked if they would like to join in on the countless benefits Kohl’s has to offer and become a Kohl’s charge customer. A policy that corporate wisely decided to disallow during this summer was accepting expired coupons. Although this angered some of the customers that had taken advantage of this flawed system, it allowed the company to save millions of dollars in sales discounts as well as accurately record their promotional campaigns on time. In general, the merchandiser that is distributing the product to Kohl’s sets the prices. Usually the sale price is listed thirty percent below the original retail price to outdo their competition. During my internship, my manager and I even went undercover to the TJ Maxx across the street to compare the deals and make sure that we had the lower prices for our customers. The pricing promotions that Kohl’s uses in its thousands of stores nationwide are second to none. Scratch-off discounts are just one example that creates a high volume of customers to the store every couple of weeks during a time when most other stores are losing money. The Kohl’s Cash that can only be redeemed the following week for a specific time period is another example of an offer that the shoppers cannot resist. These discounts to save the customer financially when they return to the store, turns the mission shopper into a routine

This type of strategy is known as skimming pricing, established by most high tech product selling companies because it will eventually reach a large demographic, which in turn increases the revenue of our company. Another pricing strategy that we have established is the psychological strategy. This allows our consumers to be under the impression that they are buying a product at a reasonable price. Pricing our products at $119.95 and $239.95 will make our customers think they’re buying a product for less than 250 and 120, giving them assurance that they are making the right choice. Also, since these prices our lower than our competitors it gives our consumers all the more assurance that they’re going in the right direction.…
