Kohler’s conclusion was that Thorndike 's theory that animals learn mechanically through actions of punishments and rewards was to be questioned. Kohler believed that animals learn through insight. Kohler is probably best known for his chimpanzee problem solving, but he also had many influences in the structure conscious experience during perception and memory.

The chimp would have to use multiple boxes and stack on top of each other to reach the food. He first tried to use a stick to knock down the banana, but after sitting down and thinking about what had to be done, he then learned to stack boxes on top of one another to reach what he wanted.
You can learn anything multiple different ways. Sometimes it takes more effort than other scenarios. Sometimes, it just takes some observation, and sometimes it takes a little interaction. Insight learning takes two previously learned things combined to solve a problem. We encounter insight learning everyday, we just don’t realize it happens. For example, as a child and we are trying to get a cookie from the cookie jar and it’s just a little out of reach. What do we do?
