Kobe: A Short Story

Improved Essays
On one afternoon, a boy did not know what was going to happen to him. In North Western Texas, there was a young boy named Kobe. Here, is his story. “Mom, I’m going to the Doom Lands fort,” announced a 12 year old boy named Kobe. It was really only 8:34 a.m., and Kobe and his friend, Courtland wanted to meet up at their “Doom lands” Fort (which really just was a few boards poorly nailed to 2 trees with a tarp roof.) When Kobe and Courtland finished, they could brag to other kids in school. That’s when Kobe saw it. A giant black storm headed his way. He rubbed his eyes. He didn’t think this was real. He took a breath and his nose and mouth filled with dust. He had to get to his house, but how? He thought putting a leaf up to his mouth so it would cover the dust. It helped only a little bit, but he knew it was better than no leaf. His home was about a 6 minute run, which translates into a 11 minute walk. When he was fatigued from running, he started walking. He was stuttering in his steps, like he was drunk. He fell down a few times from the dust particles getting into his eyes and not seeing all the branches on the ground from the storm. He didn’t think he would make it. He had only about 3 more minutes. But he had made it. Just barely. He almost suffocated from the dust. His mother was a nurse so she treated him to make sure he was better. He was so relieved that he felt better, but the storm was still going on. His family retreated to a squatter camp in California. They found a home in Nevada in 2 years, but they remembered when they were at their old house
