Limitations Of Knowledge Management

A university environment is a perfect Platform especially suitable for the application of knowledge management principles and strategies as they are considered as largest sources to exchange and share knowledge on a day to day basis in the most trustworthy atmosphere.
In my opinion following can be the possibilities by which universities can exploit KM principles:
• Using them as study program that can be taught to the students and make a change in the quality of the educational process.
• For decision support at the Management level
• Information and Knowledge dissemination of exploitation and management of the internal documentation. The major interrelated groups of decision makers identified in a university setting like Harrisburg university

The majority of the staff used a global search like google or Yahoo as their firsthand Information source and some of them equally communicated with others and external sources, but have not used the HU resources which suggest their lack of reliability of the internal Knowledge system.
4. 73 % of the staff would always like to share the new information in person verbally or through personal copy or email, which is a bad way of sharing the knowledge as it becomes perishable again and the better way would have been posting it on a common platform for knowledge sharing.
5. Loss of Technical knowledge is the biggest fear in HU staff, which proves that there are no specific policies or protocols for creating knowledge repositories for technical knowledge.
6. People are the major knowledge banks, according to these results as most of the staff wants to turn to their colleagues for any HU related questions and this make HU KM system as a weak and perishable system. Also this proves that the knowledge documentation and written artifacts are not readily available to the

Creation of Electronic documents of all the procedures, policies and protocols instead of putting them in paper form is the best way of preserving them.
3. Once the electronic documents have been created making them available to all the staff and relevant staff who need to access them using a share point site instead of emails and individual copies.
4. Providing an introduction and induction program to all the staff (both new and old) about the importance of knowledge and its management can create an impact on the staff with minimal knowledge. This can be achieved by introducing a knowledge based course for students also (as they are also part of decision support).
5. Creating external links on the intranet with external resources to create a knowledge base like websites with research and scholarly articles Eg: Google scholar, Web lens etc.;
6. Using free knowledge management software tie ups with MY HU (eg: Source forge) is an easier way of organizing the knowledge base in the initial phase as it doesn’t need lots of budget allocation. This also helps train the non-technical and administrative staff without a lot of effort.
7. Creating a bulletin board on share point like daily news or weekly updates with add-ons about new advancements in technology could be a better way of circulating the

Assignment #1 Stakeholder: VP of Nursing System: Clinical Documentation System Over the past decade there have been many advances in software that provide advantages for clinical documentation. Clinical documentation is at the core of every healthcare encounter and current legislation dictates that it must be accurate and complete. If clinical documentation does not adequately and precisely reflect the treatment and outcome of each encounter, the actual quality of care that was delivered could be seen as irrelevant. With changes to the way healthcare is funded, clinical documentation, or the resultant data and information extracted from that documentation, is how providers and organizations are being measured and adjudicated. (Jamal, 2014) Benefits There are many benefits to be gained from the implementation of a new clinical documentation system but essentially…

Types of information that is sensitive includes personal information e.g. colleagues age, address, medical history and details of personal relationships. Sensitive data that is also available but must be kept confidential is financial information including how much they earn, also information on customers or contacts that would be highly valuable to other organisations. Businesses receive and produce a lot of information all the time and it is vital that this information is stored safely and can be found quickly. Now that management has all the necessary tools at their disposal, they need to make a decision as to what best suits their organization’s needs. Regola and Chawla (2013) suggest that there needs to be a certain method to the approach of creating HIPAA compliant controls, which starts with Risk Analysis and Management, then flows to Administrative Safeguards, followed by Physical Safeguards, and finally Technical Safeguards (Regola & Chawla, 2013). To begin with, they suggest that a check needs to be performed with regards to the probability and impact of any perceivable risk to the data stored. Once the analysis has been done and risks have been identified, safeguards should be implemented and a risk analysis and management plan has to be drafted. Next, they propose that appropriate security measures need to be put in place to mitigate risks.…

When you are converting the information in paper medical records to the electronic medical records, this can make the records out of date and they can be stored offsite and they can save you the office space. You can convert everything in the paper medical record, or you could just convert the information that you need. Some things that should be known about converting the paper medical records to electronic health records is that it is the quality care and patient safety. Day in and day out, humans are constantly gaining knowledge. Knowledge is defined as information or skills based on education or experience. A lot of things on Earth today were invented by using one’s prior knowledge based on the education received or the experience one has gone through. Knowledge is then to create power to provide one with a stable job, social status, and a say in what another person can or cannot do. Knowledge can be gained through multiple ways like attending school, listening to leaders of countries/businesses, and etcetera.…

Knowledge management (KM) is now considered as one of the most important parts of any organization and a complement to the hospitality activities. With new economy increasingly becoming a more knowledge-based economy, knowledge is becoming the most important asset for organizational success among other assets such as capital, materials, machineries, and properties as stated by Wong (2005). KM is the practice of selectively applying knowledge from previous experiences of decision-making to current and future decision making activities with the express purpose of improving the organization’s effectiveness (Jennex, 2005). The KM success is reusing knowledge to improve organizational effectiveness by providing the appropriate knowledge to those…

One of the primary issues with any knowledge management system is encouraging employees to contribute. Similarly, “less than 5 percent of employees had made any form of contribution, and even fewer has used the information the system contained” (C. Kimble) by the end of 2000. Another concern with its KMS was that when people did contribute to the KShop, many of the items were repetitive, out of date or of little use. Moreover, when the company tried to incentivize the process, those in charge or reviewing the knowledge assets complained of being overwhelmed and many employees decided to contribute “for the joy of sharing” (Garud and Kumaraswamy) and were primarily motivated for the rewards. A third challenge for the company was that as the KShop grew, the number of categories grew.…
