Knowledge Is Power In Fahrenheit 451

Knowledge is power. I’m pretty sure that you’ve heard that quote before. This quote is very true in my opinion. The more knowledge you have, the more power you have. Knowledge is the reason that people get smarter and succeed. It is very important to have knowledge, but in the book Fahrenheit 451 you’re only allowed to have a certain amount knowledge. This is why the firemen burn the books. They don’t want people to have knowledge so people can’t become powerful. The government wants the people to be ignorant so they can be easier to control. This relates to our society today, in fact, it is exactly the same, the difference is just that we don’t have firemen that go around and burn books. In the book, “Fahrenheit 451,” by Ray Bradbury, …show more content…
According to Bradbury, “ We stand against the small tide of those who want to make everyone unhappy with conflicting theory and thought”(59). This was when Beatty was explaining how being a fireman is a very important job to Montag. They think that people that like and read books are people that want to be unhappy. Beatty is trying to say that books control the people and that they are a really bad influence in their actions and thoughts. This is not the case when to comes to knowledge in my opinion. From the article, “Important India” it states that “Knowledge is powerful and important part of Life. Knowledge is a powerful acquisition in life which, when given to someone, does not decrease. Our knowledge is the collective thought and experience of our forefathers, wise men who left behind a rich heritage and wealth of information.” This quote is basically telling us that knowledge came from earlier generations and that it is valuable. We determine if the knowledge should be passed on or kept to ourselves. This is why we have history as well, we learn about ancient time and see how our world has …show more content…
“And I thought about books. And for the first time I realized that a man was behind each one of the books” (Bradbury 49). Montag is talking to his wife in this quote. This book is strongly tied to books. The book explains how books get connected to people and messes with their emotions and thoughts on things. This is why they say that they are more than words and paper, because books have meaning. The meaning can give them a lesson or a different perspective on things in life. The article, “Why are books important”, concludes that, “Books are important for several reasons: they allow children and adults to learn and understand the alphabet, achieve a minimal standard of literacy and help people understand their roles in society. Some books have characters that people can easily relate to, which allows them to gain a better understanding of their own emotions, including happiness, sorrow, anger and pleasure. Some books contain stories and information on areas that people are not familiar with, such as the sciences or a certain region of the world; reading literature on these elements allows people to have a better understanding of and appreciation for those topics.” This quote basically tells us every reason that a book is important. Books stay with people their whole lives just like the quote says. The only thing that changes is the information and knowledge you receive from the
