Knowledge Is Power In Fahrenheit 451

Knowledge is power. I’m pretty sure that you’ve heard that quote before. This quote is very true in my opinion. The more knowledge you have, the more power you have. Knowledge is the reason that people get smarter and succeed. It is very important to have knowledge, but in the book Fahrenheit 451 you’re only allowed to have a certain amount knowledge. This is why the firemen burn the books. They don’t want people to have knowledge so people can’t become powerful. The government wants the people to be ignorant so they can be easier to control. This relates to our society today, in fact, it is exactly the same, the difference is just that we don’t have firemen that go around and burn books. In the book, “Fahrenheit 451,” by Ray Bradbury, …show more content…
According to Bradbury, “ We stand against the small tide of those who want to make everyone unhappy with conflicting theory and thought”(59). This was when Beatty was explaining how being a fireman is a very important job to Montag. They think that people that like and read books are people that want to be unhappy. Beatty is trying to say that books control the people and that they are a really bad influence in their actions and thoughts. This is not the case when to comes to knowledge in my opinion. From the article, “Important India” it states that “Knowledge is powerful and important part of Life. Knowledge is a powerful acquisition in life which, when given to someone, does not decrease. Our knowledge is the collective thought and experience of our forefathers, wise men who left behind a rich heritage and wealth of information.” This quote is basically telling us that knowledge came from earlier generations and that it is valuable. We determine if the knowledge should be passed on or kept to ourselves. This is why we have history as well, we learn about ancient time and see how our world has …show more content…
“And I thought about books. And for the first time I realized that a man was behind each one of the books” (Bradbury 49). Montag is talking to his wife in this quote. This book is strongly tied to books. The book explains how books get connected to people and messes with their emotions and thoughts on things. This is why they say that they are more than words and paper, because books have meaning. The meaning can give them a lesson or a different perspective on things in life. The article, “Why are books important”, concludes that, “Books are important for several reasons: they allow children and adults to learn and understand the alphabet, achieve a minimal standard of literacy and help people understand their roles in society. Some books have characters that people can easily relate to, which allows them to gain a better understanding of their own emotions, including happiness, sorrow, anger and pleasure. Some books contain stories and information on areas that people are not familiar with, such as the sciences or a certain region of the world; reading literature on these elements allows people to have a better understanding of and appreciation for those topics.” This quote basically tells us every reason that a book is important. Books stay with people their whole lives just like the quote says. The only thing that changes is the information and knowledge you receive from the

Readers want to feel like they belong in the book, thus be able to relate to the characters and connect and interact with them. Being able to empathize and connect with characters in a book like this shows that the reader is never really alone because he/she will always be kept company by the exciting and spectacular story the book provides. I believe this works more effectively with a print book rather than an online version, since one can do so much more with the print version, most of which is limited on the online version. Furthermore, one becomes less distracted reading from a print book versus an online copy. The difference between reading literature and reading online is that it gives those who are reading literature the ability to easily retain the information, and at the same time, expand their understanding of the characters as well as other people’s thoughts and…

If everyone started to read literature, common problems could be solved by acting on the experiences of the characters in the text. This also helps me specifically as I too, like everyone in this world, go through difficult times. If I continue to read and study literature I will be able to find solutions to my problems more effortlessly than before. The people would be encouraged to believe and do what the government decides is right. “Government leaders, in their arrogance and greed for power, saw that ideas, values, and such espoused in books by the great authors, and even newer authors in society, would not assist them in keeping the populace under control”( Bradbury ). The novel demonstrates how people stay away from the books that the government does not want them near.”all repressive governments eliminate authors because they are so dangerous” (Wood 155). Fear of the punishment that would come to those that hid books was a form of controlling society. In the book Bradburry portrayed how banning books was used to keep the people from reading and gaining knowledge.…

Beatty, the fire chief, absolutely despises books, while the deciphering of the meaning and thinking of text intrigue Montag. Bradbury describes his take on the impact of books: “Don’t you know why books such as this are so important? Because they have quality. And what does the word quality mean? To me, it means texture.…

Two ways that a reader is given comfort are through friendship and encouragement. Inside literature, both fiction and nonfiction, there is a “parallel universe in which anything might happen and frequently did, a universe in which I might be a newcomer but was never really a stranger” (Quindlen, 424). It is in this way that someone can connect to any character in a novel and essentially become friends. A reader can learn from a character’s mistakes and empathize with their losses. Comfort can be found in knowing those characters are always waiting for another adventure with the audience and another lesson to teach.…

FAKE vs REALITY “You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them”-Ray Bradbury. This quote is very much related to the book Fahrenheit 451. This is because in the book all books are illegal and that shows how desperate people are to make our society terrible. This is why I believe that their society is completely different from ours but yet from very similar in some aspects.…

We collapse into destroying our own notion of being good authors; the passion isn’t in ourselves. A flame of love is shared, however, because the individual burns it with other individuals in our group of writers. We don’t own this magical torch; the light, however, is shined to everyone else. The idea of loving others but hating ourselves is a paradoxical idea, until we take a human train into account: juxtaposition. We constantly compare our own standing to others, and strive to be better because of that.…

Ray Bradbury explains the dangers of being so consumed with technology. This is a futuristic novel but can easily be applied to our own society because of how technology plays such a large role and what would happen if our access to information was either limited or eliminated altogether. In the context of Fahrenheit 451 the authorities had demanded that all books are to be banned. Civilians in this society believe that using fire to burn their problems eliminates their problems for good, but in reality this creates a corrupt dystopian society. Unfortunately many citizens did not argue with the law because they didn 't want their ideas to be challenged or didn 't want to receive criticism from the government or from their peers.…

However, he takes the books and hides them, but then he starts to read them even though he knows that it is against the law. It impacts the story because he admits to knowing what the consequences are for getting caught with the books, but yet, he continues to go along with hiding the books. It reveals that Montag is not thinking too smartly and is taking a big risk by holding onto the books. The situation is worse because he is a fireman so he should be the last person to have forbidden books in his house. It helps me to understand that Montag does understand what is going on, but is willing to risk being caught with the books that he…
