Cutler has impacted Lyddie by making her work harder and making her self-conscious. On page 24, it said, “Mistress Cutler watched Lyddie like a barn cat on a sparrow, but Lyddie was determined not to give her cause for complaint. She worked even harder since she could remember,” This quote shows that Mrs. Cutler made/ encouraged Lyddie to work harder and learn her true potential. Also, on page 44, it said, “‘The best one you ever had,” Triphena muttered.” This quote shows that Lyddie is her best employee thereby showing us that Lyddie is working harder because of Mrs. Cutler to say at the job. Another thing that Mrs. Cutler did was making Lyddie self-conscious. On page 20, it said, “Self-consciously, she raised her sleeve and wiped her nose and mouth under the woman’s unforgiving stare.” This quote shows that because of Mrs. Cutler’s action, Lyddie became self-conscious about her appearance. Also, on page 20, it said, “‘Well, I’ve no time to bother with you now,” the woman said.” With these words Mrs. Cutler said Lyddie, it is clear that Lyddie can become self-conscious because of Mrs. Cutler’s action.
There are many people that left an impact on Lyddie. Some of the people who impacted Lyddie is Ezekiel, her father, and Mrs. Cutler. These people were involved in the development of a young, developing, and hard-working woman named Lyddie.
