Essay 1: Close Reading Blood Money Anyone with even a modicum of experience with writing has experienced the struggle of formulating an introduction and conclusion for their work. Stronger writers will ensure both the beginning and end add significance to a composition; neglecting to do so will often lead the reader to feel dissatisfied, confused, or critical. Articles are still being written about the controversial ending of the acclaimed television series The Sopranos, despite concluding nine years ago (Evans). Unlike The Sopranos, one does not need over three days total runtime for a conclusion to impact the thoughts of a consumer; similar rigor is found in the authoring of short stories.…

The Long Christmas Ride Home by Paula Vogel tells the story of the events leading up to a very eventful night, the events after, and the aftereffects it has on the family. Sarah Johnson’s adaptation of the play uses light and the japanese puppet theatre tradition of bunraku to enforce the play’s themes. A Christmas Carol Analysis I have loved A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens since I was little so I was very excited to see how Michael Daehn brought this iconic story to life. In his version, I believe that Daehn wanted to convey the heart of this story. To share the message of hope and selflessness and redemption and perhaps to inspire and enlighten the audience. By choosing to use a version of this play that incorporates music he not only brought this story to life but brought the audience into the story.…

The episode of The Obsolete Man was made to show how a totalitarian society would affect us. Everything that we know about our freedoms and rights would all be taken away. For example, we are currently fighting the government from taking away our abortion and marriage rights. The governments is trying to tell us who we can and cannot marry, and telling women what they can and cannot do with our own bodies. It demonstrates the governments around the world today, such as North Korea, Cuba and Syria.…

Upon seeing A Christmas Carol on the night of Friday, November 18th, I had what I thought to be a firm understanding of the Charles Dicken’s classic. It was until the show was over that I realized my previous interpretation was completely senseless, with little to no opinion deriving beyond the script. As I dove into the performance in the Joan C, Edwards playhouse, I made personal connections that I had never made before when watching other adaptions of A Christmas Carol, in particular Scrooge (1970), my father’s favorite. Every detail of this performance aided in my overwhelming positive review, asserting this play as my favorite of all the revisions I have seen.…
