In 1818 A.D, After Christians reclaimed the holy land of Jerusalem, Hugues de Payen and eight other French Catholic knights formed a monastic military order to protect the Pilgrims from bandits on their way to Palestine. With very little money and resources, the Templar launched their mission from the Temple of Solomon and with much determination and hunger for power, the Knights Templar became the strongest wall of Christian World. After Christians gained control over Jerusalem, religious pilgrimage from West to the holy land saw a dramatic rise and so did the violence. Jerusalem indeed was under control of Christians, but the majority of the territories surrounding Jerusalem was under Muslim control therefore Christian pilgrims received no protection while traveling through those areas. At one point, the issue became really big which resulted in the creation of the Poor Fellow Soldiers of Christ and of the Temple of Solomon, commonly known as the Knights Templar. Their real mandate was to protect the pilgrims who were visiting Jerusalem, but as they were gaining more power, their mandates were also growing. The Templar rose to power with support from the Pope and the King of Jerusalem. Started only as the protector of the Pilgrims, the Knights Templar soon rose to the top of Western Military and Politics. As a growing power, the Knights Templar began to establish various branches throughout Western Europe. They are often credited to be the founder of the Banking System. Since there were many Knights Templar across the continent, the pilgrims could easily deposit assets in their home country and withdraw funds in Jerusalem.
