It all happened rapidly the blur of the headlights as we pull into Spectrum Health Cancer treatment center. My father walks differently now since all the fluid in his right leg from the surgery that happened less than a month ago. Consequently it makes him do a limp as if he had just had a knee surgery. He winces at the steps, which there seems to be as many as a hundred. We shuffle through doorway, immediately peoples heads turn. As a result, most of them stare at my father's leg, following it all the way up to his waistline. You can see how swollen it is from such a long distance, i conjecture in my head if my dad feels uncomfortable . Pondering in my own head what in the world could they be thinking about him? It's almost like it has taken all the air out of the atmosphere and still expects me to remain respiring normally. I am a stronger person for him, if I can’t do it for myself than at least I should be able to do it for him. As we walk into the building. My stomach starts tightening as if a boa constrictor was wrapping itself around me. The sounds of beeping monitors. “Aj Schut?” The nurse calls. We stand up and walk into the room. Where there are a couple of people sitting in what look like lounge chairs, bald no hair on top of their heads and that's when it hits me. This is something bigger than me, bigger than him even. I love my dad and desire to be with him all the time. I can’t comprehend how people deal with this, but I want to love him like i'm going to lose him. He’s my dad, he's my hero. Realizing all of this I finally can say that loving everyone that is significant to you , in this world like you're losing them is an impressive way to live life. After we obtained our spot for the day it almost seems like any other day. Mom, Dad and I are laughing with each other as we sit there doing the puzzle. My father is a heroic, fearless and affectionate
