I thanked the first volunteer at station 1. She walked back to take her seat at station 1. I stayed at station 2, learning to use the 3-D pen, and asked the male volunteer many questions. He was very patient and willing to engage in conversation. I learned that he was a high school student, learned Engineering 101 at his high school.
Pointing to a miniature table about the size of 1-inch x 1-inch with four legs the height of 0.5 inches each, he said “I made this.” I asked about the table being multi-colored, and how it was done. He said, “the pen can only take one color at a time. I used my hand to stick various parts of the table together when the plastic was still warm and had not hardened.”
I tried using the pen to make a star using a stencil but found that the plastic was flowing out at a faster speed that I could handle. I asked about how one can control the speed of the pen. He said, “the speed cannot be controlled on this pen, but there is a better model of 3-D pen which one can control the speed, although we do not have it here.” I continued trying to make a complete star but failed several times and could not even make half a star.
