Klein presents a devastating critique of capitalism. But what are the alternatives that she presents – if any? Do you agree with these alternatives …show more content…
She doesn’t say that we need a “system change,” like eco-socialism, so it’s more of her just complaining about it and not having an actual alternative to prevent an ecological collapse. On page 22 in her book she says, “We need an entirely new economic model and a new way of sharing this planet.” She has no idea what kind of economic model we need, she just knows we need a new one. That’s clearly not an alternative, it is her implying that she wants someone else to figure it out. At least with MLK Jr., he did more than complain about it, he changed the world by doing something about it. It is clear that if she wants to be anything close to MLK Jr. in the environmentalist’s world, she needs to do more than complain and actually offer alternatives prove that she has a real case on why the government and the people of it should change to that environmental …show more content…
There may be places like Singapore, but to ask places like the United States to change like that is a crazy thought. The way we move away from capitalism is what I suggested earlier turn off all the electricity around the world. I do not believe that a country like the United States will move away from capitalism. I cannot offer any specific evidence to support my idea besides all the eras without electricity. There is a saying what goes up, most come down. It applies to the laws of gravity, but in the chart below shows that the saying can apply to the CO2 and temperature levels over the past 450,000 years. It’s not a matter if the CO2 levels will drop, it is a matter of when and how Mother Nature will do it. The only other way CO2 levels drop is not by moving away from capitalism, but by an actual solution coming from geoengineering even if it is as extreme as shutting off all the power in the world. I wish there were evidence of my idea, but since the closest thing to it is a TV show called Revolution that does not focus on the environment. Instead, it shows how society may react and what they will do to survive if such an event were to
