They were scared because they would be killed for doing nothing at all besides being themselves. But, it was not just black people who were affected from this, it was also a lot of other races to since the KKK wanted the white race to be above all. This violent group would raid people at night and every single time even someone innocent got murdered. The KKK used a lot of methods to promote their group to become more popular but the most used was whipping people in public. The government has tried to get rid of the KKK by passing an act. But, the government was afraid of them because the group has killed leaders with no hesitation.
