This revelation isn’t actually met until it is too late and Baba is close to death, but it does happen, which adds a feeling that Baba is a good person after all and isn’t just a ‘rub some dirt on it and it’ll be better’ type of person. It also adds a bit of sorrow when Baba dies, even though it was seen from a mile away, not just for Baba but for Amir as well being that he obviously takes it hard. It takes Baba and Amir moving away from Kabul and into America and Baba having to rely on Amir for their relationship to better, it also helps that they started bonding over the flea market and Amir getting married. One scene really helps the reader realize their relationship has improved “I drove away. In the rearview mirror, Baba was hobbling up the Taheris’ driveway for one last fatherly duty.” (163) This is a turning point in the book because it sort of helps Amir get out of his self pity shell that he was in and start a happy life with Soraya. Unlike the other examples Baba and Amir become very close which warms the hearts of the readers improving the novel overall.
