Final Exam Essay
In the past 10 months, I have accomplished a great amount as a writer. As the year closes I find myself reflecting on how i have grown with the help of an awesome teacher and school curriculum. Also, I have improved my skills in avoiding repetition, focus, organization. In addition, I have realized what I need to work on in future years.
A problem I persistently acquired during the writing of my Sonnet was repetition. While acceptable when in proper context, repetition isn't always favorable as it bores the audience. In my Sonnet, I continuously used the words ‘day’ and ‘and’ which resulted in boredom and dissatisfaction when read aloud. Moreover, repetition was also a problem in the Romeo and Juliet project. “I chose” was a phrase I frequently used in that assignment. While that project was based on songs best suited for the scenes chosen, the consistent use of that phrase was

Towards the middle, I skipped from scene 1 to scene 2 and then again from scene 4 to scene 1 which made it appear untidy. I avoided disorganization in my Kite Runner essay by ensuring that my main ideas were in order by occurrence, including transitions. Also, I avoided confusion in my Kite Runner essay by making sure not to stray away from the point by connecting everything back to the thesis. While in my sonnet there was no focused message or moral to it. The poem ranges from curfews, stars, thunder, and then fighting routine. In the poem I risked losing the audience’s attention by not have a point, which could ultimately cause confusion. Also, maintaining structure and focus demonstrates how I have grown as a writer because I now know how to incorporate them both without sacrificing one to have the

Poetry is generally used to tell a story whether it be about love or an epic adventure. Sonnets specifically tend to deal with complications that come with love. Billy Collins however decided to go a different route in his poem “Sonnet.” His poem is a lesson about the sonnet and how he believes the form needs to change. He does this by explaining the different forms of a sonnet, by adding in characters to support his claims, and by using figurative language to emphasize the changes he believes need to be made.…

It’s December 1st, and chapter one opens up right away with a reference to the past, 26 years ago to be exact, “on a frigid overcast day in the winter of 1975.” (Hosseini 1) when the narrator was just 12 years old, that has made this nameless narrator, “What I am today.” (Hosseini 2). This event that occurred in an alley has haunted the narrator and how you can’t just simply bury the past because it always comes back to you. The narrator recalls a phone call from last summer from someone named Rahim Khan, which he says isn’t just a call from him as much as it is a call from his past of unatoned sins.…

William Shakespeare, the writer of 154 sonnets but most widely known for his work by the name of Romeo and Juliet, has made his mark on British poetry during the Elizabethan Age/ Renaissance. The two British sonnets being compared and or contrasted are sonnet I (one) and sonnet XXIV (twenty- four) and they will be compared by the type of sonnet, theme, and use of symbols. To begin with, the first topic is what kind of sonnet both I and XXIV are, which could be one of the two: Shakespearean or English and or Petrarchan…

Creating a literature log was quite intimidating for me. I had difficulty choosing the poem, since many literature pieces on the list appealed to me. After choosing to work on the sonnet, which immediately connected me to the HOTS of comparing and contrasting, the work process went pretty smoothly. Since a poem by Shakespeare is relatively difficult to understand, due to the unique language it is written in, I paid close of attention to the basic understanding part of the log. It was challenging to think about every single difficult word in the poem and finding the simplest way to explain certain concepts.…

The Kite Runner’s seventh chapter unarguably serves as the plot’s turning point, it depicts the creation of the novel’s core conflict, that of Amir’s subsequent guilt following his betrayal which is later established as the driving force behind the majority of the story. In this chapter Hosseini not only explores the ideas of betrayal, guilt and cruelty, but also continues to construct the novel’s purpose as an ode to Hosseini 's home country of Afghanistan through the utilisation of a variety of literary techniques such as symbolism, characterisation and narrative perspective. Hosseini has constructed a tale rife with symbolism, examples of which can be observed through the light of dawn to the darkness of dusk, and even via the colour blue…

Overall my reading experience this year was very productive because I was able to grow as a reader. I have noticed that I have become more insightful and attentive when I read because I have become more able to create post-its that analyzes the text more carefully and thoroughly. I also found it more easier to create post-its because I notice more important plot points and events that directly correlates with important character traits. My favorite literary work throughout the year was “Romeo and Juliet” because it was very dramatic and the plot was very “swingy”. I also enjoyed the play format because it felt more dynamic due better pacing that most other books do not have.…
