Betrayal, according to The Merriam-Webster Dictionary, is defined as to fail or to desert especially in a time of need. Nevertheless, everyone has their own views betrayal that differ from one another. To me, betrayal is when you fail to meet the expectations of a relationship for your own personal gain. Betrayal can cause a lot of emotional fallout and baggage that goes along with it, you are able to see multiple examples of this within The Kite Runner. Another example of betrayal in the book is seen through Sanaubar abandoning Hassan and Ali. Sanaubar had a duty to both Ali and Hassan to act like a mother. Sanaubar had left because she did not love Ali. Nevertheless, she had betrayed both by committing adultery and by walking out and leaving Hassan motherless, Hassan had been unable to know the real love of a mother figure. Without a mother in his life, Hassan searches or a way to fill the gap, he finds this through Amir. Baba is supposed to love Amir no matter what he may like or choose to pursue, being that he is Amir’s father. Instead, Baba wants Amir to be just like him and wants Amir to carry on his life rather than live his own unique life. Baba soon realizes that Amir is nothing like him and neglects him. After being neglected by his own father, Amir becomes close with Rahim Khan. Rahim is always there or Amir and is able to answer his questions and give him advice. As the reader you realize that Rahim Khan portrays a better father figure than Baba has ever done.
Overall, betrayal plays a very important role in The Kite Runner. In The Kite Runner, the theme of betrayal drives the book. Betrayal can cause a lot of emotional fallout and baggage that goes along with it, you are able to see multiple examples of this within The Kite
